About Dr. Mark Sanders

Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Sanders also holds a Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He is identified as one of Houston’s “Top Docs” in H Texas magazine.

Dr. Sanders began his private Orthopaedic surgery practice in Houston in 1986 and maintains an office at the River Oaks Medical Tower in the heart of Houston’s Galleria area. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS). Dr. Sanders champions advances in Orthopedic Sports Medicine and the treatment of complex fractures, malalignment and joint degeneration. His research findings on the benefits of knee bracing in off road motorcyclists were recently published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

During his 35-year career in orthopedics, he has performed thousands of arthroscopic surgeries on severe shoulder, knee, and ankle injuries. His extensive knowledge of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and foot and ankle conditions has enabled him to help patients return to their previous level of athletic activity both with and without surgery. He is among the few surgeons who is prepared to take on serious complications resulting from unsuccessful surgeries other physicians refuse to treat. He regularly treats patients with tears of other knee ligaments, tears of the meniscal cartilages, dislocation of the patella, and malalignment disorders.

Dr. Sanders’ expertise extends also to the diabetic foot and ankle. His work in this area is reducing the number of serious limb and life threatening conditions affecting the diabetic foot and ankle.

He has treated thousands of patients with injuries to the Rotator Cuff – from impingement tendonitis, to massive rupture of the Rotator Cuff. In the majority of these cases, his patients responded well to conservative treatment.

When surgery is necessary, Dr. Sanders’ vast experience in arthroscopy provides patients with minimally traumatic surgical options – using well proven techniques for repair and reconstruction of the rotator cuff tendon and treatment for the unstable shoulder.

Despite his vast surgical experience, Dr. Sanders is one of the few orthopedic surgeons in Houston to also champion a healthy, non-surgical reconditioning program for common knee and shoulder injuries that combines personal certified trainers, a whole-body wellness plan and progress tracking. His innovative use of a nutritional plan and certified trainers has proven to be a successful combination in today’s health and activity-conscious society that is aging stronger than generations past.
